They usually gather in izakayas or go to department stores and other indoor activities. However, in spring and autumn During the cherry blossom viewing season, it is time to arrange night worship activities in the evening. This time we came to Qinglianyuan in Dongshan District during the maple viewing period.

The night lights at the gates of Qinglianyuan Temple

Qinglianin (しょうれんいん) is listed as the five gates of Kyoto Tendai Sect along with Manshuin, Bishamondang, Sanzenin, and Myoyuan. It is located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto. If you have the opportunity during the day, you can visit the gate of Qingrenin Temple and then take a bus to the Shogun Tomb. You can enjoy the night view of Kyoto city from another angle, just like enjoying the night view at Kiyomizu Temple. When we visited Qinglianyuan this time, we chose to visit Qinglianyuan at night. What we were interested in was the night worship of the red leaves of Qinglianyuan.

Qinglianyuan adopts a retreat-style garden design. In the spring and autumn season, it is open for night visits. Sitting indoors and facing outwards to enjoy the garden scenery is a common practice. However, the most famous night lighting scene in Qinglianyuan is the dots of blue lights floating in the garden. The scenery is in line with the name of Qinglian. This is also the biggest feature of Qinglianyuan at night.
