Comprehensive review: Actual accommodation evaluation of Travelodge Nagoya Sakae

Nagoya Sakae Hotel is located in the Sakae district of Nagoya, providing affordable accommodation with super high CP value. The hotel is decorated in a modern and stylish style, and the rooms are clean and tidy. The location is between several subway stations, and you can walk to the Sakae business district and major attractions. There are many convenient stores and restaurants around. The disadvantage is that there are a lot of entertainment businesses nearby, and the streets are more complicated at night. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the subway station. This hotel is suitable for independent travelers and the petty bourgeoisie who value cost-effectiveness, as well as backpackers who don't mind the slightly complicated surrounding environment.

  • Service features and brand characteristics: Chinese and English service staff, room cleaning provided for stays over four days! The staff at the counter are very friendly and have good English communication skills. Some staff can speak Chinese and can patiently help solve the problems of travelers. Luggage storage service is provided. Whether you arrive early or check out late, you can help keep your luggage. Toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and combs need to be taken at the lobby. Basic bath products and towels are provided in the room. If you stay for more than four consecutive days, you can choose the room cleaning time. Towels can be changed at the counter at ordinary times.
  • Room selection and equipment features: The space is not large but the design is practical, and there is luggage storage space under the bed! Although the room is not big, every inch of space is fully utilized through clever design and planning. A 26-inch suitcase can be placed under the bed, and the overall layout is reasonable. The bathroom adopts a dry and wet separation design, so you don't need to step into the bathtub, which is convenient to use. The room is fully equipped with sufficient sockets, including two-hole and three-hole sockets, which is very practical for Taiwanese tourists. The Wi-Fi network speed is fast and can reach more than 100Mbps. However, the air conditioner and air purifier filters are not cleaned frequently, which may cause trouble for people with sensitive constitutions.
  • Dining space and public facilities: Provide a variety of free drinks, set up practical laundry room and gym! There is a public rest area on the second floor, which provides free beverage machines until 10 pm, including cola, tea and other choices. Breakfast is served from 6:30 am. The selection is not rich, but the basic American breakfast is acceptable. There are coin-operated washing machines and dryers in the hotel, washing is 300 yen, and drying is 100 yen for 30 minutes. There are simple fitness equipment and microwave ovens on the first floor, and paid mobile power supply rental services are also provided, but there is no water dispenser, so you need to buy drinking water by yourself.
  • Transportation and surrounding environment: Close to Nagoya's main tourist areas, the surrounding area is both convenient and complex! The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Marunouchi Station and about 10 minutes from Hisaya-odori Station. Sakae Shopping District, TV Tower, Oasis 21 and other attractions are all within walking distance. There is a Lawson convenience store opposite the hotel, and there are also large drugstores such as V-Drug and Business Supermarket nearby. There are also well-known chain stores such as Torikizoku, Sekaiyama-chan, Isomaru Suisan, and Kemeido Coffee nearby, all within a 10-minute walk. However, the hotel is surrounded by the entertainment industry, and there will be more complicated people at night. Women traveling alone need to pay attention to safety.

Regarding the hotel's location, it's within walking distance of two Nagoya Municipal Subway stations: Marunouchi Station and Fushimi Station. Both stations provide easy access to the hotel's surroundings. The Sakae shopping district is about a 15-minute walk away, which isn't particularly close, but it's not too far either. It's important to note that if you're carrying large luggage, it's not recommended to get off at the nearest exit. A more convenient option is to take the train to Marunouchi Station, which has an elevator that connects directly to the ground level (easily found on a subway map). Even then, it's still about a 10-minute walk from the elevator exit to the hotel. For travelers with luggage, children, or those with mobility issues, the walk itself isn't difficult, but it is still quite a distance from the hotel. As for dining options, the area is primarily comprised of izakayas (Japanese pubs). Walking towards the Sakae shopping district, you'll gradually encounter ramen shops and set meal restaurants, offering a relatively simple but not extensive selection. Regarding the nighttime environment, the hotel is located in a hotel district with generally acceptable safety. Nagoya City has banned touting, so there are no soliciting customers on the streets. However, you may still see some people coming and going at night, occasionally smoking, littering, or engaging in indecent behavior (such as urinating in public). Travelers who are sensitive to nighttime environments or dislike this atmosphere should carefully consider whether staying here is suitable. The itinerary mainly involves traveling by car to attractions around the city center or in the suburbs, making this a relatively good choice. Compared to the complex and crowded subway lines around Nagoya Station, it feels easier to start from here. However, to reach more distant suburban attractions, such as Inuyama Castle, or to transfer to a bus at Nagoya Station to reach places like Gujo Hachiman, you will still need to take the subway for one or two stops to Nagoya Station before transferring. Overall, the accommodation experience is acceptable, but there are still some details that could be improved. The pillows in the room were a bit low, which might be uncomfortable for some guests. Additionally, the space for hanging clothes and the number of hangers were limited. In winter, when there are often more coats and heavy clothing, increasing the number of hangers would be more convenient. Regarding front desk service, it is recommended that staff receive more training in responding to common guest questions, such as approximate taxi fare estimates to major locations, whether they can assist with calling a taxi, and the available timeframe. Furthermore, the English communication skills of the front desk staff were somewhat limited, and no on-site translation tools were provided. In some cases, guests had to use translation software to communicate, which was slightly inconvenient. Aside from these details, the overall accommodation had no major issues and was a generally satisfactory experience.

"@The transportation is very convenient, near Marunouchi Station, Sakae Station, and Hisaya-Odori Station, about a 5-10 minute walk away. You just need to walk in the direction of the line you want to take each day. @By the way, this is very important: the room is incredibly soundproof. So soundproof that I thought only a few people were staying there or that no one was next door. One morning I found at least 40-50 group guests checking out downstairs, and many more checked in that evening, but I didn't hear a sound, not even the pipes... @The room's air conditioning and heating are very powerful. Even at 29 degrees Celsius, the air conditioning was still cold, and at 23 degrees Celsius, the heating was unbearably hot, haha. @The room is very clean, and although it's not big, the bed is very comfortable, just right for two people. @It's about a ten-minute walk to Don Quijote and Daikoku Drugstore, which is quite close. There are very few drugstores nearby, so if you see one on the street, you should buy it. @The toilet has a separate wet and dry area, but there's no bathtub." @The area around the hotel is mostly nightlife district. Many people gather and solicit customers at night, but they recognize foreigners and don't approach or solicit business. However, it can be a little scary to walk alone at night. @The area around the hotel is mostly izakayas (Japanese pubs). There are Toriko and Ichiran Ramen nearby; I ate there for three consecutive nights (around 10 pm) without having to wait in line! Perhaps due to recent events, there were very few Chinese tourists… @Overall, I was quite satisfied with the hotel's service and environment, and I recommend it.

"The hotel has a great location! It's between two subway stations, about 500 meters away – quiet yet conveniently located, with a vibrant nightlife area and plenty of parking options. This time, I stayed 4 nights in a twin room for only ¥26500, which is about NT$5400, averaging NT$1300-1400 per night – incredibly cheap! The room was clean and not too small. The bathroom, while lacking a bathtub, felt much more spacious (separate wet and dry areas). 👍 The water pressure was strong, and the hot water was very hot. If you have the chance to stay near Sakae in Nagoya, I highly recommend this hotel!"
