The founding hotel of the Rihga Royal Hotels Group was the Shin-Osaka Hotel, which opened in 1935. The group's second property, the Osaka Grand Hotel, followed in 1958, and the Kyoto Grand Hotel in 1969. The Shin-Osaka Hotel closed in 1973, and the new Osaka Royal Hotel opened next door.
