Overall Review: Actual Accommodation Reviews of Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE in Lake Ashi, Hakone
Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE Hakone-Ashi-no-ko is Rakuten Group's flagship resort apartment located on the lakeside, adjacent to Moto-Hakone Port. It features IoT-enabled self-service check-in and boasts private natural hot springs and views of Mount Fuji as its biggest selling points. Rooms start from 55 square meters. Advantages include stunning views, comprehensive amenities, and pet-friendly facilities. Main disadvantages include a lack of flexibility in service due to the absence of management, inconsistent room cleanliness in some rooms, and inconvenience in moving luggage in rainy weather. Overall, it is suitable for families and groups of friends who value privacy, have pets, or prefer to cook their own meals.
- Service features and brand characteristics: IoT-enabled unmanned check-in, full of technological feel, which may be a bit unfamiliar to travelers who are used to traditional hotel services! The hotel uses a self-service check-in system. Check-in requires entering a pre-sent room key code, followed by registration on a tablet in the room. Identity verification is done via video call with remote customer service, which may feel unfamiliar to those accustomed to traditional hotel services. From check-in to check-out and meal arrangements, everything is done online. The downside is near-zero flexibility; vehicles must be moved upon check-out, and even requests to extend the stay by the lake are explicitly refused. However, customer service can be contacted by phone in case of occasional equipment problems.
- Room type selection and equipment features: You can enjoy the Fuji-san hot spring in your own room, and there is also a 4K projector with a top-of-the-line sound system! All rooms feature a private, semi-open-air natural hot spring bath and a foot bath with a counter. A 4K projector and a high-end sound system from the British brand Bowers & Wilkins are also included. Rooms accommodating 10 guests also feature a lake-view sauna and a 5.1-channel surround sound system. Dining is pre-prepared; dinner and breakfast ingredients are refrigerated beforehand. Complimentary welcome drinks include wine, sake, Fuji Mountain soda, beer, and snacks. However, condiments and oils are not provided and guests must bring their own. Cleaning details could be improved.
- Dining space and public facilities: The duck hot pot and seafood donburi ingredients in the refrigerator are a pleasant surprise, and the outdoor barbecue with the lake view is especially enjoyable!Dinner options included in the meal plan include a hot pot set meal with various side dishes, and a BBQ set meal. Breakfast offers seafood-based donburi ingredients, all pre-placed in the room's refrigerator; you can heat and cook them yourself according to the instructions. It is recommended to check the contents before ordering. BBQ is available on the outdoor terrace, but this is a seasonal treat. However, if neighboring rooms are barbecuing at the same time, the smells and noise may interfere with each other. The pet-friendly rooms on the first floor have a courtyard, but the grass and weeds behind the courtyard are overgrown and not well-maintained; landscaping is recommended.
- Transportation and surrounding environment: The pirate ship pier is just a 3-minute walk away, and you can also go for a morning run to worship at Hakone Shrine!Located in Motohakone, Hakone-machi, Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture, the address is approximately a 3-minute walk from the Motohakone Port pirate ship boarding area and the Narukawa Art Museum, a 10-minute walk from the Hakone Checkpoint, and a 5-minute drive from Hakone Shrine. Convenience stores are also within walking distance. For public transportation, the Izu-Hakone Bus from Odawara Station to Motohakone Port takes approximately 50 minutes, and the Hakone Tozan Bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station also takes approximately 50 minutes. During rainy weather, if using the second parking lot, the distance from the parking space to the guest room entrance is relatively far, making it inconvenient to carry luggage.
⭐Recommendation rating: ★★★★☆ (4.0/5.0)
- Recommended groupsFamilies or groups of friends traveling with pets, independent travelers who prefer flexible schedules and do not rely on front desk services, and vacationers who value scenic experiences and private hot springs.
- Reasons for recommendationThe entire building offers direct views of Lake Ashi and features a private natural hot spring, a foot bath, and a BBQ terrace. The refrigerator provides complimentary drinks and food, which is quite unique. The pet-friendly design is relatively rare in the Hakone area, and the value for money is high compared to similar facilities.
✅Reminders
- Preparations should be made in advance if no one is staying there. Before check-in, please confirm that you have received an email with the door lock code and fill in your contact phone number and email address in the booking remarks section. If you have not received the email by noon the day before, please contact customer service. Otherwise, you will not be able to complete the self-service check-in process.
- The view of Mount Fuji depends on the weather. The room type boasts a view of Mount Fuji, but the mountain view is greatly affected by the weather. Many guests have reported that they encountered cloudy or rainy days throughout their stay and were unable to see Mount Fuji. It is recommended to check the weather forecast when choosing your check-in date to avoid having too high expectations for the view.
