Want to see Pokémon galore in person? The Yomiuri Land in Tokyo will open a new permanent themed area, "PokéPark Kanto," in Spring 2026. This new attraction, a collaboration between Pokémon, Yomiuri Land, and the Yomiuri Shimbun, covers approximately 2.6 hectares and promises an unprecedented immersive experience.
The park's name is derived from "Kanto" in the original Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green, and "Kanto" where Tokyo is located, symbolizing a return to the origins of Pokémon, starting from the classics. Tickets are expected to go on sale this fall, with more details to be announced later.
Pokémon x Yomiuri Group: The Origins of the Collaboration and Theme Parks
The Yomiuri Shimbun's collaboration with Pokémon has a long history, dating back over a decade, from the 2009 Pokémon Proverbs Encyclopedia series to the Pokémon Dragon King Battle tournament, and now to the theme park. This time, three companies have jointly established "Poke Park Canto Co., Ltd." to manage the park's operations.
A summary of the collaboration process (quick guide for beginners)
- 2009: The Yomiuri Shimbun began serializing "Pokémon Proverbs Encyclopedia," marking the beginning of their collaboration.
- 2014: The first "Pokémon Dragon King Battle" tournament was held, successfully attracting a large number of fans.
- 2021: "Pokémon Wonder," a nature-themed immersive experience, was launched at Yomiuri Land, allowing visitors to search for and explore the traces of Pokémon in an outdoor environment.
- 2023: The Pokémon Company, Yomiuri Land and Yomiuri Shimbun officially announced the creation of a new permanent outdoor park, "PokéPark KANTO".
- 2025: The three parties will jointly establish "PokéPark KANTO LLC" to be responsible for future operation and park management.
- Spring 2026: The brand-new theme park "PokéPark KANTO" will officially open, becoming a new Pokémon mecca near Tokyo!
Highlights of the new PokéPark KANTO area
- Origin of the name: It is inspired by the Kanto region, the setting of the first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green, which were released in 1996. The name is also similar in pronunciation to "Kanto," symbolizing a tribute to the original games and reflecting the park's location in the Kanto region.
- Location of the park: Located within Yomiuri Land, covering an area of approximately 2.6 hectares, it is a relatively large newly developed area within the park.
- The theme of the park is "Nature × Technology", which recreates the forests, grasslands and towns of the Kanto region and creates an immersive play space where you can get up close and personal with the Pokémon world.

Introduction to Two Themed Zones | Highlights of Pokémon Forest and Kussa Town
The entire PokéPark Kanto is divided into two main areas:
Pokémon Forest | Immersive 500-meter Forest Adventure Area
"Pokémon Forest" is a forest trail about 500 meters long, featuring diverse terrain including undulating paths, grassy areas, mountain trails, and tunnels, making you feel like you've stepped into the natural world of the Kanto region. In this forest, you can see Pokémon running, battling, sharing berries, and other aspects of their lives, making it an immersive experience area for close observation of Pokémon ecology.
- Entry method: You must have a Trainer's Pass or Elite Trainer's Pass to enter the Pokémon Forest.
- Age restrictions: This area has age and safety-related entry restrictions, including children under 5 years old and their companions may not be allowed entry.

Kayatsuri Town | A lively town that Pokémon fans must visit
Kussa Town is one of the most vibrant areas in PokéPark KANTO. Upon entering the town, you'll be greeted by the Trainer Market, overflowing with Pokémon merchandise, as well as a Pokémon Center, a Friendly Shop, a Gym, parades, meet-and-greets, and even two exclusive amusement rides. The central Primarina Fountain has become a landmark of the town, adding even more energy to the entire area.
➊ Pokémon Center | Stepping inside will heal you with Chansey's smile.
Stepping into the Pokémon Center in Kusanagi Town, the ever-smiling Chansey will greet Trainers at the entrance. Visitors can see how the "Recovery Machine" restores Pokémon's energy, making it feel like stepping into the game world – a perfect spot for taking photos and creating lasting memories.
➋ Friendly Shop | A great place to recharge during your trip
After healing your Pokémon at the Pokémon Center, don't forget to visit the Friendship Shop! It sells original drinks exclusive to the park and serves as a small stop for trainers to replenish their energy during their adventures.
➌ Two major attractions | Pikachu Electric Park & Eevee Spinning Journey
PikaPika Paradise is a ride-on attraction powered by over 30 Electric-type Pokémon. Experiencing this vibrant "Electric Paradise" with Pikachu is a must-do for any Electric-type Pokémon fan.
VuiVui Voyage is a dreamy spinning ride themed around Eevee. Some seats are pulled by Ponyta and Fiery Horse horses, while others feature "flying seats" with balloons, allowing you to embark on a light and airy adventure as if you were traveling around the world.
A friendly reminder! These two rides require separate tickets, which can be purchased at the Trainer Market ticket booth in Kusa Town.
➍ Kusasa Town Gym | Electric-themed stage show every day
The Kussa Town Gym is themed around Electric-type Pokémon, and features daily stage performances. Trainers can interact and have fun with the Pokémon live – a special show "only available here." Some performances, parades, and meet-and-greets within Kussa Town may require advance lottery tickets or specific ticket purchases. It's recommended to check the park's "Program and Meet-and-Greet Information" page beforehand to avoid missing any events you might want to see.

PokéPark KANTO Transportation Guide | Best Route to the Beginner Village
PokéPark Kanto is located within the Yomiuriland park, so the transportation is exactly the same. Once you arrive at Yomiuriland, just follow the signs to the Pokémon Park entrance; if you have purchased a Pokémon Park ticket, you can also enter Yomiuriland on the same day, allowing for more flexible itinerary planning.
The main ways to get there are by the two railway lines: the Keio Line and the Odakyu Line. The Keio Line is the most convenient, as you can take the iconic Sky Shuttle cable car directly to the park entrance, saving you energy and allowing you to enjoy the scenery along the way.
- By train: Take the Keio Line from Shinjuku Station.
- Transfer: At Chofu Station, transfer to the Keio Sagamihara Line (towards Hashimoto).
- Get off at "Keio Yomiuri Land Station".
- Cable car: After exiting the station, it is about a 1-3 minute walk to reach the "Sky Shuttle" cable car boarding area.
- Arrival: Take the cable car for about 5 to 10 minutes to reach the entrance of Yomiuri Land.
Sky Shuttle Information
- One-way ticket price: 300 yen
- Round-trip ticket price: 500 yen
- Advantages: Saves you from climbing hills and allows you to enjoy the scenery from above (cherry blossoms in spring, maple leaves in autumn, and lights in winter).
Odakyu Line (alternative to not taking the cable car): If you don't choose the Keio Line, you can take the Odakyu Line to "Yomiuri Landmae Station" and then transfer to a bus to the park entrance. Although the route is more circuitous, it may be more flexible during peak hours.
