One Station Hotel Kumamoto
ONE STATION HOTEL KUMAMOTO
For our last night in Northern Kyushu, we chose to stay at ONE STATION in Kumamoto. Before checking in, we read some reviews, and many people said the rooms were old and unclean, so we hesitated. However, we decided to stay anyway because the hotel is right next to JR Kumamoto Station, making it the best choice for us after taking the Shinkansen from Hakata to Kumamoto. We didn't need to take the streetcar into the city center, and we needed to take the airport bus to Kumamoto Airport early the next morning. ONE STATION was the perfect choice for us, as the No. 7 bus stop for the airport was right next to the hotel, less than a minute's walk away – super convenient! The hotel lobby is very grand; I heard it was recently renovated. There's also a bar next to the lobby that looks great. They gave us a discount coupon upon check-in, which we could use if we wanted a drink in the evening. The room wasn't big, but I thought the layout was nice. The room and bathroom were clean and cozy. We stayed on the 8th floor, and the view from the window was fantastic! We could see the streetcar and the JR station. There's a FamilyMart between the JR station and the hotel, making it convenient to grab a bite even late at night. Another key point is the incredibly affordable price. It's less than NT$800 per person per night (breakfast not included). Given its excellent location, such a low price was a must-have. I read negative reviews, but after staying there, I found it fantastic! I highly recommend it!

Located next to JR Kumamoto Station, this business hotel is just a 1-minute walk from the station, making it very convenient. The hotel has three restaurants and boasts a classically elegant elevator design. The guest rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-insulated, offering good views. Front-row rooms overlook the station plaza and street scenes, while back-row rooms offer views of the Shinkansen and local trains. This time, I stayed in a king-size double room, which included a 180cm double bed and a single sofa bed. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a traditional design, with no separate shower and toilet, and no separate shower area. The room had a foyer door, providing good privacy. No key card is needed; there's a small key storage area by the door. The housekeeping staff were very attentive, changing toiletries and cleaning the room daily, and tidying the room every two days. The only drawback was the dim lighting, which might be difficult for older guests. An ice maker and microwave are available in the common area on each floor for guest use. You can leave your luggage in the lobby before check-in. Just confirm with the front desk that you are a guest, and you can leave your luggage there – very convenient! Additionally, the accommodation offers a 10% discount coupon for the lobby bar! The accommodation is reasonably priced, offering great value for money, making it ideal for business trips and family vacations. Children receive a complimentary bag of Kumamon children's amenities!

The hotel is relatively new, and the facilities meet the needs of travelers. It's very close to the Kumamoto City tram station, just a 2-4 minute walk away. Like other hotels in the area, the rooms aren't very large, but the layout makes the space feel spacious and not cramped at all. Two free bottles of drinking water and self-replenishing toiletries are provided daily. All staff at the front desk and restaurant are non-Japanese, so communication is smooth even without speaking Japanese. The advantages are as described above, but the disadvantages are as follows: 1. The bed and pillows weren't comfortable, but this is just my personal experience and cannot be generalized. 2. The sky bath... The hotel explained that rooms would be available for people with tattoos at specific times, but management wasn't strict; basically, there were tattooed people there at any time. 3. As with point 2, the sky bath is open to non-guests, again with lax management; it felt like a regular public bathhouse, with non-guests constantly going in and out. 4. The open-air area of the sky bath had a lot of flying insects, and there were more "dead bodies" floating on the surface of the women's bath than the men's; the experience was poor, and the hygiene was also lacking. 5. Visited in February 2026, stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour. Located on a bustling street, turn into the hotel around the Viesta Pony store. It's easier to get off the tour bus on the main road first. The lobby isn't at the hotel entrance; you need to take the elevator to the 12th floor. Floors 3-11 are guest rooms. The high-ceilinged lobby is beautiful. The restaurant and hot spring are also on the 12th floor. We had the breakfast buffet, which was decent but not bad. A unique touch was the small, ocean-themed clay sculptures on each room's door, adding a romantic touch. Amenities were complete and available in the lobby. The best advantage is its location in a lively area, where you can find delicious pork cutlets, ramen, or Japanese cuisine. Because of its convenient location, if you don't like the nearby shopping centers, you can take a taxi to a more distant area. The room key cards can only be used to select the floor, so you need to distribute the cards among your family members. When we checked out, we dropped the room key into the key card box next to the elevator on the first floor, avoiding the need to go up to the 12th-floor lobby, which was also quite unique.

The hotel is conveniently located right next to a shopping street. Being a new hotel, it was very clean, with a subtle cypress scent throughout. The female staff at the entrance were lovely and friendly, even offering to help us take out the trash. However, a group of Korean tour guides and older women arrived later. They were completely disobedient, refusing to use the carpet to wipe their suitcases, making the female staff wipe each suitcase individually. The tour guide even inexplicably started swearing at the counter. If any staff members see this message, please don't mind those rude people; you've done a very good job.

This newly opened hotel (2025) boasts a fantastic location within walking distance of a shopping district. It's next to Starbucks, McDonald's, drugstores, and izakayas – everything you could want. The Dormy Inn group offers consistently high-quality service. The lobby features complimentary coffee, and there are free late-night snacks, ramen, and ice cream in the onsen (hot spring bath). The large public bath is new and includes a small outdoor pool. It offers a truly authentic Japanese onsen ryokan experience in the city. Highly recommended for those who want to shop and enjoy a relaxing onsen experience.

The four-person room is very spacious; three suitcases could easily fit. The advantages are: 1. There's a washing machine (with three laundry balls). After washing, hang your clothes in the bathroom; the air conditioning will dry them overnight. 2. Amenities include toothbrushes, razors, and yukatas (available on the first floor). 3. The bathroom has great water pressure – a very comfortable bath. 4. Housekeeping staff will replenish clean towels and collect your trash after two nights; you need to pack your trash and put it in the entryway. 5. There's a 7-Eleven across the street. 6. The bed is very comfortable. 7. There are plenty of electrical outlets. 8. There's a table for eating, which is convenient. There's a small water dispenser on the first floor. Parking is available in many paid parking lots around the hotel; I recommend parking on the left side of the hotel (maximum 600 yen per night). We didn't book breakfast this time; we just bought it at the convenience store. Overall, it's a very suitable hotel for family trips (experience from a Taiwanese family of 2 adults and 2 children).

This hotel offers unbeatable value for money! All the front desk staff speak English, and one speaks Chinese and Korean. The room is quite spacious for a Japanese hotel! It has a small countertop, an induction cooker, cookware and tableware, a microwave, a kettle, a dishcloth and dish soap, and a washing machine with a few laundry balls. If you're staying for several days, they'll come to clean the room in between (you can also put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door). On other days, you can pack up your trash and leave your dirty towels in the entryway in the morning, and staff will collect the trash and replace the towels and trash bags. Check-out is before 10:00 AM, which is very convenient – just scan the QR code at the counter! The hotel has a high-quality and stylish feel, and the spring bed is very comfortable (it seems to be a Simmons mattress!). It's not far from the power outlet, and there's a 7-Eleven nearby. I stayed for 6 nights and was very satisfied!

I booked a hotel room about a month later through the platform and submitted the order at 14:47 on January 26th. Later, due to a sudden change in my family's travel plans, I needed to cancel the room. I was shocked to discover that the free cancellation cooling-off period was only 4 hours and 48 minutes, after which the full amount would be deducted. I immediately emailed the hotel at 1:13 AM on January 29th to request a partial refund, but was ultimately ruthlessly rejected. My heart was already cold before even setting off. Booking a room a month in advance, yet the cancellation period is only a short 4-hour period. Such a rule is completely unreasonable. If it were a room for the next day, such a time limit would be acceptable, but setting such a cooling-off period for booking a month in advance is meaningless. It would be more honest to not set any refund terms at all. In fact, I only applied for a partial refund. After canceling the order, the hotel had enough time to resell the room, not only without any loss, but also potentially generating secondary profits, and even retaining customer goodwill. However, the hotel rigidly adhered to inflexible rules, completely disregarding the actual circumstances of its customers and failing to consider the inherent irrationality of the rules. Ultimately, it lost not only a repeat customer but also its reputation. We chose this hotel because it's close to the Kumamoto Sakuracho bus terminal and the nearby shopping street. It was newly renovated in 2024 and has double rooms, and we were very satisfied with everything. Whenever I'm in a slightly colder place, I'm always worried about sleeping with the heating on and staying in a hotel where the central heating can't be turned off automatically. Here, there's a separate air conditioner that can be turned on, so I don't have to worry about waking up from the heat. The hotel has a tea and beverage stall on the second floor from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM where you can relax. The tea bags are especially delicious. They also have some Kyushu and Kumamoto travel guides. The first floor has coin-operated washing machines, an ice maker, and limited-time hot drinks. These weren't mentioned at check-in, but we saw them in reviews, so we went up to the second floor (where breakfast is also served) for coffee; the atmosphere was very nice. I felt this hotel was very well-equipped with even the smallest amenities. The shampoo was easy to use, and there were luggage racks so I didn't have to bend over or kneel to unpack. The water temperature was particularly good – strong, hot, and comfortable, so even in cold weather, I didn't have to worry about getting chilled while washing my hair. The hairdryer was also powerful. These small details greatly enhanced my stay. Breakfast included horse meat curry and salmon, but the taste was the saltiest of the five or six hotels I stayed at during my three-month trip through northern and southern Kyushu. I personally didn't like it. The Sakuracho bus terminal area has several 24-hour restaurants, some drugstores open until 11 pm, and Don Quijote is open until 5 am. Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three most famous castles, is also within walking distance. I'm extremely glad I chose this area around the Sakuracho bus terminal as my hotel. If taking the train, I usually get on and off at Shinshimacho Station (near the Red Line (A Line)) because both the A and B lines stop there.
