On Luodong's historic forestry street, a grandparents' house has been revitalized by a brother and sister into "Lao Jia Coffee." Preserving the wooden beams and the traces of time, the cafe offers homemade desserts and brunch, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the warmth of time and home over a cup of coffee. Whether you're planning a short trip to Luodong or seeking a quiet corner amidst the bustling city, this old house offers a unique experience, both personal and unique.
How to get to Lao Jia Coffee?
Lao Jia Coffee is located in a quiet alleyway amidst the bustle of Luodong, about a 10-minute walk from Luodong Station and a 20-minute walk from the transfer station. We stayed at the Cun Que International Hot Spring Hotel that day, having driven all the way from New Taipei City to Yilan, and stopped by here for a meal and a refreshing coffee. Although the shop is located in a residential area, parking is readily available, making it a great stop for self-driving travelers.

Lao Jia Coffee records the warmth of time
The moment you open the door of the store, you can smell the aroma of coffee and the scent of the old house.
Lao Jia Coffee retains its original appearance, with walls, tiled floors, and vintage window frames, seeming to gently transport time into the house. This was once the siblings' grandparents' home, now a coffee shop where one can savor the history and warmth of handcrafted craftsmanship. Sunlight streams in, casting shadows on the wooden tables. Whether it's a quick break from travel or a quiet corner for a leisurely cup of coffee, this place is a place that invites you to linger.

Lao Jia Coffee: The warmth of home
Lao Jia Coffee is run by the current owner's younger brother, who, after returning from a restaurant career in Taipei, has incorporated his years of culinary experience into the space of his old house. The coffee is roasted in-house, primarily pour-over, offering a delicate aroma. Meals are made to order and served warm.
The dumplings we tasted that day were paired with a special chili sauce, which was delicious. The chili sauce was made by the boss himself, and he would have to wait until the weather cleared up before frying another batch and leaving it for regular customers to pre-order.
In addition to handmade dishes, the store is filled with the owner's collection of Godzilla merchandise—from dolls and T-shirts to wall decorations—creating a balanced atmosphere between nostalgia and fun, while also allowing people to feel the personality and warmth of an old-fashioned cafe.

The original location of Laojia Coffee, once the home of the owner's grandparents, is located on Linsen Road in Luodong, Yilan. During the heyday of Luodong's forestry industry, this street attracted many timber merchants who migrated from as far away as Chiayi, creating a bustling scene filled with merchants. With the waning of the Taipingshan logging industry, Linsen Road, now a quiet haven for travelers, now stands.
Against this backdrop, a younger generation decided to revitalize the old house, connecting memories through coffee, tea, and handmade desserts. The owner wrote on his website, "Sparked by a serendipitous inspiration, I revitalized the old space; repositioning and preserving the old objects, to see if they could bring new thinking and relevance to the modern business model... Old objects, coffee, tea, and a quiet time all await you at Lao Jia."
This philosophy also makes "Laojia Coffee" one of the few old-house coffee shops in Luodong where you can feel the pulse of history and the warmth of modern times at the same time.

Feel the atmosphere and details of the old house
Walking into Laojia Coffee, you can sense the tranquility and warmth of this old house. The wooden structure retains traces of time, and paired with simple furnishings and gentle lighting, the overall atmosphere is nostalgic yet not outdated. All the old objects in the shop seem to tell the story of the time this house has witnessed.
The shop's small interior feels surprisingly cozy. Whether it's a window seat, a high stool at the bar, or a more secluded corner seat, each one exudes a unique atmosphere. Sit down with a pour-over coffee and watch the light and shadows cast across the wooden table, and time seems to slow down.
