Overall Review: Actual Accommodation Reviews of Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma
The Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma is just a 2-minute walk from Shijo Station. The surrounding area boasts excellent amenities, with a wide range of shopping and dining options. The overall environment is clean and modern, with well-equipped rooms and comfortable beds. Eco-friendly water dispensers are available on each floor. However, the downsides include limited breakfast options, relatively small room sizes, and insufficient laundry facilities. Overall, it's suitable for business travelers or couples prioritizing convenience and short stays, but less ideal for those requiring a substantial breakfast or longer stays.
- Service features and brand characteristics: A young and friendly service team, Japanese-style service, and an environmental protection philosophy! Courtyard by Marriott, a mid-range hotel under the Marriott brand, boasts a warm and modern atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful, with decent English communication skills, and their basic service attitude is generally well-received by guests. The hotel emphasizes environmental protection, not providing bottled water, but does have water dispensers on each floor, and reusable kettles in the rooms. However, initial training was insufficient, resulting in slow check-in efficiency and room for improvement. While the overall service level meets Courtyard's brand standards, the hotel's facilities are still at a basic, adequate business hotel level.
- Room type selection and facilities: The room is new and clean but the space is a bit small. The bathroom facilities are quite good! The guest rooms are clean and modern, fully equipped with practical amenities including an air purifier, humidifier, and garment steamer. The beds are also quite comfortable. The bathroom is spacious and clean, offering a bathtub and featuring a separate shower and bathtub design; however, the bathroom floor is slippery and should be avoided. A refillable kettle of approximately 1 liter is provided in the room; guests need to use the water dispenser next to the elevator to get water. The room's drawback is that the standard room type is relatively small, lacking sufficient space for luggage and a wardrobe. It is suitable for short stays but not for long stays or those carrying a lot of luggage.
- Dining areas and public facilities: The buffet breakfast has limited options, and the gym equipment is simple but practical! Breakfast service is outsourced to the Le Bon Vivre restaurant on the first floor. The buffet selection is limited, lacking basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup, rice, and tofu. Fresh vegetables are also scarce, so additional purchases are unnecessary. Regarding public facilities, the hotel has a 24-hour gym equipped with basic equipment such as treadmills, dumbbells, and exercise balls. While the equipment is not extensive, it is well-maintained. A coffee machine in the lobby provides freshly brewed coffee and newspapers. However, the hotel lacks laundry facilities, with only two pay-per-use washing machines, sometimes requiring a wait until late at night.
- Transportation and surrounding environment: Four subway stations are within a 2-minute walk, making it very convenient to travel to and from Osaka! The hotel is just a 2-minute walk from Exit 6 of Shijo Station. Those with large luggage can use the elevator at Exit 4. It's also conveniently located near Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line, and only an 8-minute walk from Gojo Station. Within walking distance are a Pokémon Center, Daimaru Department Store, numerous convenience stores, pharmacies, and restaurants ranging from affordable ramen to upscale establishments. Major tourist attractions such as Gion, Nishiki Market, and Kyoto Tower are also within walking distance; however, police sirens may occasionally be heard on Karasuma-dori Street.
