Overall Review: Comfortable Hotel ERA, Kyoto Toji - Actual Accommodation Reviews
The comfortable ERA Kyoto Toji Hotel, rebranded and reopened, boasts excellent overall reviews. Rooms are spacious, clean, and equipped with modern amenities, and the location is directly opposite the Kintetsu Toji Station. The main drawbacks are that some rooms may have noise from neighboring rooms or trains outside, occasional bathroom drainage issues, insufficient blackout curtains, and limited restaurant options nearby, requiring advance reservations. Overall, it's suitable for independent travelers who prioritize convenient transportation, have a limited budget but demand quality, and is also recommended for families with children and those traveling to Kyoto Station, Nara, or other attractions.
- Service features and brand characteristics: Complimentary drinks and snacks are available all day, and a professionally selected book selection creates a reading space! The hotel staff are friendly and professional, proactively assisting with sightseeing information and luggage storage. The cleaning staff also greet guests warmly. The hotel's most distinctive feature is the library café on the first floor, open from 10:00 AM to midnight. It offers approximately 100 carefully selected books, magazines, and travel publications, and is equipped with single sofas, tables and chairs, a microwave, and a toaster. Complimentary coffee, tea, and lemonade are also available. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, welcome snacks such as matcha and Japanese sweets like warabi mochi are served. After 6:00 PM, nuts are available as snacks, which children especially love.
- Room type selection and facilities: The rooms are spacious and equipped with modern facilities, including high-end hair dryers and showers! The hotel has 180 non-smoking guest rooms, which are more spacious than those in typical Japanese business hotels, so even with large suitcases, you won't feel cramped. Rooms facing Kujo-dori Main Street offer views of the Kintetsu trams, Toji Temple's five-story pagoda, and Kyoto Tower in the distance, making them suitable for railway enthusiasts or families, although you may hear train horns or tram noises. The bathrooms are equipped with MYTREX HIHO microbubble showerheads and Kinu brand negative ion hair dryers, which are powerful, lightweight, and have a hair-care effect. The three-piece bathroom is spacious, but the drainage is a bit slow.
- Dining space and public facilities: A buffet breakfast is offered with a wide variety of healthy dishes, and self-service laundry facilities are readily available! The hotel's lobby features elaborate paintings of maiko (geisha) on the walls, making it a popular spot for photos. Breakfast, themed around beauty, health, and wellness, is designed with the help of a nutritionist. It offers over 10 kinds of salads, fresh fruit, and freshly cooked egg dishes, as well as dishes using Kyoto ingredients such as matcha yogurt smoothies, Saikyo-yaki (grilled vegetables), and Mapo tofu. The dishes are well-balanced and moderately salty, with ample seating. Coin-operated self-service laundry and dryers are available, but the number is limited and the prices are slightly high.
- Transportation and surrounding environment: It is right opposite the Kintetsu Toji Station, and it is only one stop away from Kyoto Station, which is super convenient! The hotel is located directly opposite the exit of Kintetsu Toji Station, just one stop from Kyoto Station, or a 15-minute walk from the Hachijo East Exit of JR Kyoto Station, passing the Kintetsu Shopping Street and AEON Mall along the way. There's a Lawson convenience store next to the hotel, and other supermarkets within walking distance. Several paid parking lots are available nearby, some offering 24-hour fixed-rate parking. The downside is that the hotel isn't in the center of Kyoto, so there are fewer restaurant options nearby, and popular restaurants require reservations. However, there are fast-food chains like KFC, MOS Burger, and Yoshinoya nearby.
