When visiting Jingoji Temple, a famous spot for red leaves in Kyoto, we passed two Kyoto maple viewing restaurants, Inkstone and Kaohsiung Tea House, and we went in for a meal without hesitation. A bowl of hot noodle soup paired with the beautiful scenery of red leaves outside the window makes people feel warm. It is recommended that you reserve some flexible time when planning your maple viewing itinerary in Kyoto, so that you can leave more unforgettable travel memories when the weather is fine or the scenery is stunning.

Kyoto maple viewing restaurant: Inkstone

The article "A Famous Place for Red Leaves Next to the Kiyotaki River: Jingoji Temple" mentions that the climb from the shrine is constantly steep, and entering Jingoji Temple still requires a certain amount of physical strength, but the scenery along the way is definitely worth the trip. When you are about to arrive at Jingoji Temple, there will be two small shops surrounded by red leaves on the left. The first is "Kaohsiung Tea House", and continuing up is "Inkstone Pavilion".

Yanshi Pavilion is located at a higher position, and the seating area in the store can overlook the entire maple forest, providing an excellent view. Due to the large number of seats, most people will choose to dine here after visiting Jingoji Temple on their way down the mountain. The hot dishes provided by the store, such as udon noodles, soba noodles, or Kyoto's special soup tofu, add a touch of warmth to the cool autumn days. Sit down and enjoy a slow meal, warm up before moving on to the next attraction, adding a more perfect experience to your trip to the red leaves.

▲ After introducing the inkstone pavilion, let's go down to the Kaohsiung tea house to see!

Kyoto maple viewing restaurant: Kaohsiung Tea House

Meals at Kaohsiung Tea House are similar to Yanshi Ting, with refreshment options available. After enjoying the main meal at Yanshi Pavilion, you might as well come to Kaohsiung Teahouse for dessert to add another layer of enjoyment to your maple viewing trip. In the tea house’s seating area, you can look up at the colorful maple leaves. The store has thoughtfully set up red cloth seats and red umbrellas to create an elegant maple viewing atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to relax, step away from your phone, and just enjoy the view.

It is worth noting that the red leaves near Jingoji Temple change color slightly earlier than the famous red leaves in Kyoto city. When we visited on November 11, about 20% to 3% of the maple leaves on the trees had fallen, forming a beautiful carpet of red leaves. It is recommended to come in mid-November, which is the best time to appreciate the maple leaves.
