After walking out of the worship gate of Zhenrudo Hall, turn left to Jinjie Guangming Temple. Walk slowly along the road and observe carefully, and you will never miss the Eishoin on the way. This hidden gem is in stark contrast to the popular Zhenyudang and Guangming Temple. The area of Eishoin is small and the number of visitors is relatively small. Although the maple leaves here are not as abundant as other famous places, it exudes a unique peaceful charm. When visiting famous maple viewing spots continuously, it is recommended to stop here for a while, so that the mind can change and settle, and enjoy a moment of peace and beauty.
Rong Sheyuan Archives
Eishoin was built in 1589 by the Warring States general Kinama Morikasa. Kinama Morikatsu was originally a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and later joined Akechi Mitsuhide's camp, and served in guarding Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Honnoji Incident in 1582, and finally returned to the Tokugawa clan under Ieyasu's forced order. Eishuin has a profound historical background, and Kinama Morikasa's cemetery is located in the nearby Kinkei Komeiji Temple. The history of the two places is intertwined, and it has become one of the cultural attractions that cannot be ignored during the maple viewing tour in Kyoto.
Transportation and itinerary of Rong Sheyuan
The transportation to Eishuin is very convenient. You can take the Kyoto Bus to "Okazaki Michi Station". After visiting Kinkei Guangmingji Temple, you can walk to Eishuin. Another option is to take the bus to "Zhenyudangmae Station". After visiting Zhenyudang, you can walk to Eishein. No matter which route you choose, Rongshuin can be used as a quiet place to relax after visiting the popular maple viewing spots.
Although Eishuin is not the main maple viewing spot in Kyoto, there are not many red leaves, so there is no need to make a special trip to see the maples. But if your itinerary includes Zhenru Hall or Jinjie Guangming Temple, this is a highly recommended short-term stopover, allowing you to enjoy a moment of tranquility after visiting the crowded attractions.
