Kyoto Eikando is a famous maple viewing spot, with different views during the day and night. As night falls, people are already lining up outside the temple to buy tickets and enter, filled with expectations. Especially the golden maple leaves on the eaves on the right side are extremely charming. I believe that after entering Yongkan Hall, you will be able to enjoy an even more gorgeous view.

How to get to Eikan-do from Kyoto Station

Eikan-do is located in Sakyo District, Kyoto, adjacent to Nanzenji Temple and Tensho-an Temple. It is a famous place for viewing red leaves. It is recommended to include it in your one-day itinerary. There are several transportation options to get to Eikan-do from downtown Kyoto. When taking the city bus, you can choose to take Line 5 and get off at "Nanzenji Eikando-dori" station, then walk for about 3 minutes; or take Line 100 and get off at "Higashitennocho" station Get off the bus and walk for about 5 minutes. In addition, you can also take the Tozai Subway Line, exit from Exit 1 of Keage Station, and walk for about 15 minutes to reach Eikan-do.

The red leaves arrive at the reflection pool and the water is beautiful, transforming into the autumn colors at night.

The predecessor of Eikando was the villa of Fujiwara Sekio, a scholar in the Heian period of Japan. It was later named Zenrinji Temple by Emperor Seiwa and was renamed Eikando after lawyer Eikan presided over it. This temple is famous for its spacious garden, and the walking paths from Shakya Hall, Kaishan Hall and Mikage Hall are connected to each other. Every autumn, Eikando lights up at night to illuminate the red leaves in the garden, creating a picturesque scene. As you walk inside the temple, the halls are illuminated by red leaves. The lights and red leaves are reflected in the pond, making you want to click the shutter frequently. Eikando’s reputation as a “red leaf resort” is well deserved.

Second visit to Yongguantang, experience during the daytime visit

The year before, I collected the night maple scenery of Eikando, a famous place for viewing autumn leaves in Kyoto. When arranging the itinerary this time, I wondered whether we should visit the red leaves during the day under Eikando’s reputation.Fortunately, we have arranged a schedule, because the red leaves here have their own beauty regardless of day and night. No wonder that many people are always attracted to watch it in the fall. It is indeed one of the must-see attractions, whether it is looking up or down, the red leaves The beauty intertwined with koi, ginkgo, and Buddha statues is unforgettable and still want to visit again.
